Intelligence Server Engines and Query Flow

I would like to blog about various MicroStrategy engines available in I-Server. There are about 14 I-Server engines, each one is described below:

• Security Engine – manages user authentication and authorization
• Object Browsing Engine – presents the folder navigation of the BI applications
• Prompting Engine – manages the presentation and resolution of prompts
• Resolution Engine – interprets business definitions for efficient execution
• Command Engine – manages all engine capacities and job queues.

MicroStrategy Access and Privilege Control by Project

From the time I last blogged and today, I have seen excellent growth in the number of MicroStrategy implementations. Many enterprises (regardless of size) have started using MicroStrategy for Business Intelligence practice. I have helped few teams to get started with MicroStrategy. One most common questions most clients had was around project security.

I would like to describe a MicroStrategy Access & Privilege Control Model which might work for most clients. The goal is to address the following:

Intelligent Cubes in MicroStrategy 9.x

Intelligent Cubes provide access to a single set of data that can be shared among multiple reports and analyzed with OLAP Services, while reducing access to the data warehouse.

Finding out all the free-form SQL reports in a project

Finding out all the free-form SQL reports in a project:

There is no option with in the desktop to find out the list of free-form SQL reports in a MicroStrategy project. The list can be pulled by querying the metadata.

What you need is the access to metadata. So that you can connect and run the below query.

select a11.object_name from dssmdobjinfo a11, dssmdobjdepn a12 where
a11.object_id=a12.object_id
and a12.depn_objid in(select a13.object_id from dssmdobjinfo a13,

Creating a Data Mart Report

Data Mart report is a feature in MicroStrategy which allows a report to insert the results set into a table which can be created  on any relational database. MicroStrategy objects can be built on the table (created by data mart report) for reporting needs.

Create a new report or modify an existing report to configure a data mart report.

Step 1: Open the report editor and click on "Configure Data Mart" [Data > Configure Data Mart]
